In 2020, China's total waterway freight traffic amounted to 7.6 billion tons. Breakdown by region, Anhui Province ranked first nationwide with about 1.2 billion tons of freight in that year. In second and third place were Zhejiang Province and Guangdong Province, with 1.06 billion and 1.04 billion tons of waterway freight respectively.
