White bread
The one bread type that has particularly suffered from the downward trend mentioned above is white bread. Consumer purchases per week dropped by roughly 100 grams during the past decade. However, white bread remains the favorite bread of UK consumers. Standard white bread that is sliced is the biggest seller, with 149 grams of it sold on average per week per person.
Market outlook
In the future, revenues for the bread market in the UK are expected to grow, with sales volumes forecast to stabilize. Other European countries like France and Germany are similarly expecting market developments that are best described as slightly growing revenues with a mostly stagnating consumption level.
