France: social network penetration Q4 2017 This statistic presents the social network, voip, and messenger penetration in France as of the fourth quarter 2016, by social media platform. In January of 2018, 58 percent of the population had an active account with any social network. The most popular social network was YouTube with a 69 percent penetration rate among internet users during the survey period. Facebook numbers were approximately same as YouTube's. The micro blogging site Twitter had a penetration rate of 24 percent. The overall number of social network users in France is estimated to be 38 million monthly active users in 2017. For the year 2017, Statista predicted that in the same year there will be roughly 31.24 million Facebook users. Companies used these sites to generate about 279 million euros in advertising revenues in 2015. The most active age group on social media was those of individuals between 18 and 24 years of age. Usage drops for older generations and among those aged 70 or above social media sites only reach a share of 12 percent.
