McDonald's: ad spend 2014-2018

Globally-known quick service restaurant (QSR) chain McDonald’s spent approximately 476.8 million U.S. dollars on advertising worldwide in 2018, down from 633.1 million the previous year. Advertising costs are divided into two categories: contributions to advertising cooperatives and production costs for radio and TV advertising. Contributions to advertising cooperatives accounted for 388.8 million U.S. dollars and production costs for 88 million in 2018.  

 Advertising big spenders 

In the United States, McDonald’s spent the most money on advertising when compared to its fellow big-name QSR chains. When ranked, the company that came closest to McDonald’s in terms of ad spend was Taco Bell – however they were still far behind in this respect. It is unsurprising that McDonalds invested huge amounts into advertising given its nature as a gargantuan global household name - the total revenue McDonald’s generates, and its sheer size, more than counterbalances its media advertising costs.
