Quarterly housing starts by private companies in England 1978-2022
Private enterprises started nearly 46,000 homes in England in the second quarter of 2022. New home construction starts in England reached their lowest level in years during the second quarter of 2020 - resembling a decline in 2008. By the third quarter of 2020, however, housing starts initiated by the private sector had gone up again, now amounted to nearly 32,000. Outside of the periods surrounding 2008 and early 2020, the number of housing starts in the UK region remained relatively consistent.
