This statistic shows the brands of tampons used most often in the United States from 2011 to 2019. The data has been calculated by Statista based on the United Nations data and Simmons National Consumer Survey (NHCS). According to this statistic, 18.42 million women in the U.S. used Tampax in 2019.

Tampon sales in the United States

Sanitary napkins and tampons are purchased most often in food outlets, followed by purchase rates in drugstores. In the United States, tampons sales amount to over 600 million U.S. dollars a year, with Tampax Pearl ringing in the most sales among the leading brands.

The most popular tampon brand in U.S. households is Tampax. Tampax has been around since the 1930s and is currently owned by Procter & Gamble. It is also the most popular brand in France and Spain. In the United States, Tampax in followed in popularity by Kotex and Playtex. Kotex like Tampax, also has a long history, dating back to the 1920s, and was originally one of the first companies to produce disposable sanitary napkins. Playtex is newer, dating back to the 1950s. The other major tampon brand is o.b., although being considerably less popular on the American market compared to the others. This brand is newer and it was originally invented by a German gynecologist around 50 years ago. The name, o.b. stands for "ohne binde" which means "without napkins". The o.b. tampon is also the only big brand that offers tampons without an applicator - contributing to less waste and making it more convenient to carry around.
