About This Statistic
This statistic shows the percent of respondents who own a Blu-ray DVD player in their household from the third quarter of 2010 to the first quarter of 2017. In the third quarter of 2010, seven percent of respondents claimed to have a Blu-ray DVD player in their household. In the first quarter of 2017, this percentage was up to 15 percent.
A blu-ray player is used to read Blu-ray discs that allows for information to be stored at a greater density than is possible with normal DVDs. A Blu-ray disc is capable of storing hours of video in high-definition (720p and 1080p) and ultra high-definition (2160p). Blu-ray players' presence in households was still slight when compared to other consumer electronics, but they are steadily increasing.
