Expenditure on dental services in the United Kingdom 2005-2021
In 2021, consumer spending on dental services was at approximately 2.2 billion British pounds, an increase from the previous year. From 2005 to 2019, the household spending on dental services has almost tripled. In 2020, however, a significant decrease was caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The number of dentists employed in the UK has increased alongside the rise in spending on dental services, with numbers increasing from just below 29.5 thousand dentists in 2007 to approximately 36.3 thousand in 2020. Meanwhile the number of medical and dental technicians has fluctuated since 2010, amounting to nearly 45.4 thousand technicians employed in the UK in 2021.
Interaction with dental services
In Great Britain, almost three-quarters claim they visit a dentist at least once a year, while ten percent never see a dentist. The British public in general have a positive view of dental services in their country. In a 2020 survey, 33 percent in England rated their experience of NHS dental services as fairly good, while a further 50 percent rated the service as very good.
