This statistic shows the sickness absence rates in the United Kingdom (UK) for 2013 as a percentage of all working days, by occupation group. Managers and Senior Officials had the lowest absence rates, in comparison to Caring, Leisure And Other Service Occupations where employees were absent from work due to sickness more than twice as often.

*The sickness absence rate is the percentage of working hours that are lost due to sickness absences for workers by the number of employees at their workplace.
**The sickness absence rate by occupation group is calculated for all people in employment aged 16 and over.
***Occupation group is based on the Standard Occupation Classification (SOC) 2010 major groups.
****Quarterly datasets were used to generate annual averages.

Sickness absence rates do not account for the total length of absence because the Labour Force Survey can only measure up to seven days off work during the interviewee’s reference week.
