Supplementary notes

Data are from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS). This statistic includes only the noninstitutionalized population with a dental visit. In MEPS, payments are defined as the sum of payments for care received, including out-of-pocket payments and payments made by private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and other payers. Payments were adjusted for inflation using the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), 2010 dollars. For 2004 and 2010, Medicaid includes children enrolled in the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.
