International hotel company Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. generated approximately 5.79 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2021, up from the previous year's total of 4.31 billion. The overall reduction in revenue, compared to more recent years, can be attributed to the global coronavirus pandemic which forced several Hilton Worldwide properties across the globe to shut its doors in an attempt to control the spread of the virus.
A global player
Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. is arguably one of the most well-known hotel chains across the globe. The company’s owned and leased hotels accounted for 0.6 billion U.S. dollars of the total revenue generated in 2021. In that year, the company accounted for over a million hotel rooms across the globe.
Hilton Worldwide vs. Marriott International
Some of the hotel brands owned by Hilton Worldwide include Hampton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, and Waldorf Astoria. Hilton Hotels & Resorts recorded the highest hotel brand value in 2020 - valuing at 10.83 billion U.S. dollars, thereby ranking before its main competitor Marriott International. Despite the considerable success of Hilton and its brand value, it still ranked in second place in terms of revenue. Comparatively, rival Marriott International generated over double the revenue of Hilton with nearly 10.57 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.

(in billion U.S. dollars)
*On January 3, 2017, Hilton Worldwide completed the spin-offs of a portfolio of hotels and resorts and timeshare business, into two independent, publicly traded companies: Park Hotels & Resorts Inc. and Hilton Grand Vacations Inc., respectively.
They completed a 1-for-3 reverse stock split of Hilton's outstanding common stock (the "Reverse Stock Split"). The authorized number of shares of common stock was reduced from 30,000,000,000 to 10,000,000,000, and the authorized number of shares of preferred stock remained 3,000,000,000. As a result all share and share-related information presented prior to the Reverse Stock Split have been retrospectively adjusted to reflect the decreased number of shares resulting from the Reverse Stock Split.
