The UK Restaurant industry
The restaurant and eating out market in the UK has experienced a period of growth, reflected in the increasing number of businesses operating in the industry. Between 2011 and 2016, net openings of food-led licensed premises were up, while drink-led sites were down, as businesses attempted to tap into the growing trend for dining out over drinking out.
Household spending on eating out in all types of food service venues has also been on the rise, suggesting a demand for new restaurant premises. In 2016 the eating out market in the UK reached over 87 billion British pounds, a significant increase on the previous two years.
