Dell's PC unit shipments worldwide 2011-2022, by quarter
Dell is the number three PC vendor in the world, behind Lenovo and HP.
Consistency in a shrinking market
For the past decade, Dell has managed to keep their PC unit sales steady at around 10 million units per quarter. Since reaching a high of more than 360 million units shipped in 2011, the PC market has declined every year. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has brought about a resurgence to the PC market, supported by a growing number of people working from home.
Rising to cloud-based solutions
As the market is undergoing a continuing fundamental shift from on-premise hardware to cloud solutions, Dell has started to adapt its business to the shift. The company has for example advanced its efforts in cloud infrastructure solutions to simplify hybrid cloud settings. This is done through endeavors such as its company VMware, a cloud computing and software virtualization company, and the data storage and infrastructure company EMC, which Dell bought in a considerable acquisition in 2015.
