In February 2016 the price of diesel fuel in Northern Ireland dropped to a low of 100.1 pence per liter. Prices have fluctuated since, but by September 2019, residents were paying on average 129 pence per liter.

Unleaded 95 octane cheaper than diesel

  The cheapest fuel in Northern Ireland is unleaded 95 octane, with super unleaded usually the most expensive. At the beginning of 2019 the price of 95 octane amounted to 118.6 pence per liter. In comparison diesel and super unleaded cost 127 and 126.3 pence respectively.

Diesel prices rise across the nation

The cost per liter of diesel across the UK has been increasing in recent years. Prices followed a similar pattern in each country, but on average filling up in Northern Ireland was slightly cheaper than in Scotland, Wales and England. Between April 2018 and April 2019, the price of diesel increased by 7.1 percent in the UK. This was a bigger increase compared to many other nations.
