HIV medication worldwide sales by type 2008-2012
This statistic depicts the differentiation in worldwide sales for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) medication from 2008 to 2012, by drug type. In 2010, the fixed-dose combination drugs accounted for 56% and plain active ingredient drugs accounted for 44% of HIV medication sold. In 2013, about 34 million people around the world were suffering from HIV but due to advances in medication, it is considered a manageable chronic condition. Although, antiretroviral therapy has made living with HIV much more manageable, there are many in the developing world that still have no access to sufficient medical treatment. HIV antiviral volume is decreasing as fixed-dose combination therapy becomes more prominent.
