Predicted costs of lithium-ion batteries in PHEV by element 2012-2016 This statistic shows a projection of the costs of lithium-ion batteries for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by value chain elements in 2012 and 2016 in U.S. dollars per kilowatt hour. In 2012, lithium-ion battery modules cost 71 U.S. dollars per kilowatt hour in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The reduction in cost of lithium-ion batteries will be heavily influential on the success of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Charging infrastructure as well as customer acceptance will be important in the growth of this industry. The reduction in costs of cobalt, metal, wiring, and plastic have helped lower battery costs.
