Cancer of the oesophagus is a type of cancer that affects the oesophagus, it occurs when cells within the oesophagus begin to grow abnormally. In 2017, 5,280 males and 2,289 females were registered as newly diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus. This was an increase on the previous year's number of registrations, among males and a decrease among females.
