This statistic shows the number of vehicles on the road which were not licensed according to their tax class within Great Britain between 2007 and 2017. The number of unlicensed vehicles in each tax class decreased between 2007 and 2013, most falling by at least 50 percent, often more. The majority of unlicensed vehicles in active stock were cars or vans and by 2013 there were still an estimated 179,000 such vehicles.
In 2015, the number of of unlicensed light goods vehicles had more than doubled to 416,000, while the number of unlicensed HGVs and motorcycles had tripled and almost quadrupled respectively. The growth continued to 2017.
