Demand for electricians was high. The rise of green technologies had birthed a need for those skilled in the implementation and maintenance of respective products. The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership estimated that an additional 15,000 electricians were needed. As of the end of 2018, renewable electricity had a combined installed capacity of 44,425 megawatts, having grown in every quarter of the year.
Future of electrotechnical industry
According to a 2018 survey among employers in the electrical contracting industry, the electrotechnical sector would see many structural changes due to new technological advances. 38 percent of respondents also anticipated green energy and renewables to play a part in transforming the industry.
The UK workforce at a glance
When looking at the overall workforce within the UK, the greatest number of jobs were found in the wholesale and retail trade sector. By comparison, those carrying out professional scientific and technical activities numbered 3.05 million.
