This statistic shows the percentage share of retail stores occupied in the United Kingdom (UK), by region and split by occupier type (original occupier or other). Since 2009 many high profile retail brands have gone into administration in the UK, with the media declaring such times as the 'death of the high street'. As of January 2014, approximately 50 percent of retail stores are occupied in Northern Ireland, 26 percent of which by the original owners.
