Waste volumes rose between 2002 and 2004 to a peak of 4.38 million metric tons, dropping in the following years. By 2012/13, waste volumes had dropped to a low of 3.39 million metric tons. However, this has risen yearly since then, amounting to 3.45 million metric tons in 2018/19.
