Richest people in India 2022
It’s a man’s world
Gender pay gap is a global issue, so it comes as no surprise that women did not feature on the ten richest Indians list. Interestingly, in a separate ranking of the richest women in India, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, the daughter of Shiv Nadar and CEO of HCL Technologies, led the race with a net worth of nearly 843 billion rupees.
Gender gap in economic participation
From the Forbes global rich list, nine were Indian women. But it is worth noting that most of them acquired their fortune either from inheritance, divorce or a wealthy husband. Only two women in the list were self-made billionaires. According to the World Economic Forum’s report on global gender pay gap, the gap in economic participation and opportunity was closed by 63 percent across all countries. Although the richest men and women may not be directly affected by these indexes, it still speaks for the scarcity of rich women in the world.
