Northern Ireland birth rate 2000-2017 In 2017 there were 12.3 births per 1,000 people in Northern Ireland, the lowest it has been in the twenty-first century. Between 2000 and 2008 Northern Ireland's birth rate increased from 12.8 to 14.4 but started to decline gradually until 2012 when it dropped from 13.9 to 13.3 in just one year.
UK Birth rate drops to 11.4
For the United Kingdom as a whole, the birth rate fell to 11.4 in 2017, the lowest it has been since 2002. Like Northern Ireland the birth rate for the entire UK rose throughout the 2000s and reached a peak in 2010 at 12.9 births per 1,000 population, the birth rate declined after this year, with the rate falling from 12.8 to 12.1 between 2012 and 2013.

755 thousand births in 2017
The live birth rate is based on the number of live births in the UK along with the population estimates for that year. In 2017 there were around 755 thousand births, out of a population of approximately 66 million people.
