In 2021, Munich Reinsurance was the largest property and casualty reinsurance company globally in terms of gross premiums written. This was a change over 2020 when Swiss Re Ltd was the market leader. In 2021, Munich Re reported gross reinsurance premiums written worth 32.6 billion U.S. dollars and Swiss Re followed behind with 23.1 billion U.S. dollars.
