This statistic displays the percentage of U.S. adults aged 40 years and over that used prescription cholesterol-lowering medication within the past 30 days in 2011-2012, by selected medical conditions. During this time, 62.8 percent of adults with diabetes reported using cholesterol-lowering medication. Elevated cholesterol levels is a major risk factor in the development of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is one of the most common diseases in the country and the leading cause of mortality.
