BMW car sales in Italy 2012-2020

In 2020, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) sold around 46,000 vehicles in Italy, a decline of more than 20 percent year-on-year. This figure represents the lowest sales volume since 2014.

Italy and Europe are key destinations for BMW’s deliveries

Italy was among BMW's largest target markets in 2020. The automaker sold around 2.7 percent of automobiles in Italy, Europe's fourth-largest auto market. As a whole, almost 40 percent of BMW's deliveries went to Europe in 2020: European motorists purchased some 675,000 BMW cars in 2020. That year, China remained the country with the largest share of deliveries: one-third of BMW's car sales were sold here.

Competitors

Volkswagen, including its Audi, VW, and Porsche brands, is BMW's largest German competitor. Volkswagen Group's car sales in Italy exceeded 225,000 units in 2020. This figure was largely due to the performance of the group's namesake brand. Volkswagen’s sales volume reached 128,152 units, a decline of about 28 percent year-on-year.
