Prepaid debit card use in U.S. households by region

The use of prepaid debit cards by households in the United States in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 can be categorized by geographic region. In 2019, 9.3 percent of households in the south of the United States made use of a prepaid debit card, making it the most popular region to do so. In comparison, around 7.1 percent of households in the west did so in 2019.

Prepaid debit cards are particularly popular among unmarried, female-headed families (14.4 percent in 2019).
