Between 2021 and 2022, the Banco Santander Group increased by seven million customers worldwide. In 2021, the Spanish giant had approximately 206 thousand employees, across nearly 9,000 branches looking after the needs of its customers globally.

Banking population in Europe

In 2021, the overall banking population in Europe was just above 400 million individuals across 6,000 banks operating inside the EU27 countries. The Russian Sberbank alone boasted nearly 101 million customers globally.  

Santander embraces FinTech

Compared to several other European banks, Banco Santander Group has chosen to embrace the digitally focused future of the financial sector. Through acquisition, investment and mergers the Spanish bank have embraced FinTech companies more than any other of Europe’s leading banks.
