Museum attendance in England 2023

According to a study published by the United Kingdom's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the share of adults who visited a museum or gallery in the last 12 months in England increased in 2022/2023 compared to the previous fiscal year. That said, it remained way below the figures reported prior to the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, in 2022/2023, roughly 33 percent of surveyed adults reported visiting a museum or gallery over the previous year.

In October 2021, the DCMS launched the Participation Survey. Data for 2021/2022 refer to the period from October 2021 to March 2022. The source mentions that due to changes in the survey methodologies, it is not possible to make direct comparisons between the figures of the Taking Part Survey and the Participation Survey.
