Number of overseas visitors to the National Gallery in England 2011-2022
The number of overseas visitors to the National Gallery in London, England, declined sharply in 2020/2021 over the previous fiscal year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. From March 2020 onwards, museums, galleries, and cultural institutions in the country had to close for long periods, as the government introduced emergency measures to limit the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, travel restrictions adopted during the health crisis hit international tourism hard. As a result of such circumstances, the number of overseas visitors to the National Gallery stood at just 5.6 thousand between April 2020 and March 2021. The following fiscal year, between April 2021 and March 2022, the number of overseas visitors increased to 122 thousand.
