Supplementary notes

All figures are annual estimates.
Since 2007, data for the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) are collected yearly instead of every two years. While a sample of approximately 130,000 respondents were interviewed during the reference periods of 2003 and 2005, it has been changed to 65,000 respondents each year starting in 2007.

Functional health based on 8 dimensions of functioning (vision, hearing, speech, mobility, dexterity, feelings, cognition and pain). A score of 0.8 to 1.0 is considered to be good to full functional health; scores below 0.8 are considered to indicate moderate to poor functional health.
Otherwise known as the Health Utility Index (HUI), this index, developed at McMaster University's Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis, is based on the Comprehensive Health Status Measurement System (CHSMS). Adapted from Statistics Canada, statcan.gc.ca, 2009 to 2014. This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product.
