As of 2023, the average cinema ticket price in Norway amounted to 131 Norwegian kroner, up from 126.2 kroner the year before. From 2010 to 2023, the price overall increased in the Scandinavian country. For comparison, in 2010, cinema visitors paid on average 86.57 Norwegian kroner for a ticket.
How has the number of cinema admissions developed in Norway?
Although the ticket price in Norwegian cinemas increased in the last years, the number of moviegoers rebounded after the drop caused by the pandemic. According to another survey, 42 percent of individuals went to the cinema in 2021. Especially younger people tended to go to the cinema. 68 percent of Norwegians aged 16 to 19 years stated to have visited movie theaters in 2021, whereas only 22 percent of 67 to 79-year-olds consumed films in the cinema. However, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the following consequences, such as movie theater closures, the admission number significantly declined in 2020.
The growing Norwegian cinema market
Before the pandemic, the value of the Norwegian cinema industry increased due to the growing ticket prices and stable admission numbers. While the gross box office revenue amounted to about 954 million Norwegian kroner in 2010, it reached a value of 1.1 billion kroner in 2021. Similarly, the spending on cinema advertising increased in 2022 after the sharp decrease recorded in 2020.
