The number of payment transactions at POS terminals with cards issued in Belgium from 2009 to 2020 has generally increased since 2009. After a sudden increase from over 1.2 billion payments in 2016 to about 1.74 billion transactions in 2017, the numbers of card payment transactions have remained fairly similar and reached 1.77 billion transactions in 2020. In 2019, card payments per capita were around 204 in Belgium.
