In 2017, the retail sales volume index was at 97.5, where 2015 is the base year. This index is used to measure the volume of all textiles, clothing and footwear sold by retailers in Sweden. Between 2007 and 2010, the volume of textile, clothing and footwear sales gradually rose, before showing a continuous decline until 2014, where the volume index amounted to 96.7.
Sweden is known for its fashion and design and one of the most known companies worldwide coming from this Nordic country is the fashion retailer H&M. Swedes do have a fable for design, which reflects also in their spending behavior on household textiles. On average 9.8 billion Swedish kronor have been spent on household textiles by Swedish consumers in 2015. Over the past ten years, the expenditure increased annually. A similar trend can be seen in the consumption expenditure on clothing and footwear in Sweden.
