About This Statistic
This statistic shows the results of a survey concerning frequently used payment methods for internet purchases in Germany from 2012 to 2016. In 2016, roughly 43 percent of respondents stated that they had used a online payment system like PayPal to pay for an online purchase before. This was the most popular payment method for online purchases that year. With online shopping continuously rising in popularity, a wider choice of convenient payment methods is important for customer satisfaction. In Germany, the most common payment options offered by online shops in 2016 included the online wallet (available in 90.7 percent of online shops surveyed) and the credit card (available in 88.4 percent of online shops). Debit payments, while usually offered as a payment method in online shops, were less popular among German online shoppers, with only 8 percent of consumers choosing to pay for their purchases this way in 2016.
