In 2020, there were roughly 49.5 million internet users among the German-speaking population aged 14 years and older who had already used or purchased paid services on the internet.

2018: 23,389 respondents, project base of 70.45 million persons
2019: 23,318 respondents, projected base of 70.60 million persons

The source phrased the survey question as follows: "There are numerous services and products offered on the internet which one can use or order and which then have to be paid for, for example buying books or clothing or booking rental cars etc. Have you ever ordered anything on the internet that you had to pay for?" (Direct translation from German: „Im Internet gibt es ganz verschiedene Dienstleistungen, Waren- und Serviceangebote, die man in Anspruch nehmen oder bestellen kann und die man dann bezahlen muss, z. B. Bücher oder Kleidung kaufen, einen Mietwagen oder eine Reise buchen usw. Haben Sie über das Internet schon einmal etwas bestellt oder in Anspruch genommen, das etwas gekostet hat?")
