Leading payment methods for online shopping in Denmark 2018 Debit or credit card were the most popular online shopping payment method in Denmark in 2018, used by 78 percent of the respondents. Next in the list came mobile payment, such as MobilePay or ApplePay, used by ten percent of respondents. Four percent of Danes used PayPal, two percent used online banking, and other two percent used invoices. Regarding the preferred payment cards, Dankort and Visa/Dankort seemed to be most popular among the participants. Both were used by 75 percent of survey participants as of 2018.

      62 percent of people in Denmark shopped online in 2018 and came third on the list of Nordic countries after Sweden and Norway. The same year over 14 thousand Danes were asked how often they shopped online in the past month and 27 percent of them said they did it three or four times. In contrast, eight percent of the respondents admitted to be shopping online over ten times a month.

Why online shopping?

      A survey conducted in 2018 found that the categories which Danish people were most keen on purchasing online were clothing and footwear, which were both bought by 38 percent of the respondents. Next on the list were home electronics, purchased by 26 percent of the Danes interviewed. When people were asked why they shopped online that year, over 21 percent of them answered that the product was cheaper online than in the store. In addition, around 17 percent of the respondents said the product could only be found online.
