The statistic shows the number of YouTube U.S. users from 2014 to 2015, including a forecast until 2019. According to the projected figures, the number of online video platform viewers will amount to 187.8 million in 2019, up from 170.7 million in 2015.
As a part of Google’s multi-brand online empire, YouTube is the most popular online video property worldwide 256897 – as of December 2015, it ranked before Facebook and Chinese competitor Sohu.com in terms of global audience reach. The same also holds true for the United States – in February 2016, Google Sites/YouTube ranked first with more than double the amount of unique desktop video viewers than second-ranked competitor Facebook. Due to its massive audience size, it is no surprise that YouTube accounts for a significant share of total video advertising revenues in the United States, which translates to an estimate of 1.55 billion U.S. dollars in net video advertising revenues in the United States in 2015.
Some of the most popular content categories on YouTube include music videos, gaming, comedy and beauty content. However, not all content is created by brands, and some categories have a significantly higher share of user-generated content. This also reflects in terms of user engagement – native YouTuber channels accounted for 34 percent of most subscribed YouTube channels, compared to the 15 percent share of music artist or label channels.
