In 2014, the two largest hotel brands in terms of number of rooms were the Holiday Inn Express and the Holiday. Both of these are separate divisions of the InterContinental Hotels Group commonly abbreviated to IHG. The hotel group which is headquartered in Buckinghamshire, in the United Kingdom is the umbrella company for many other hotel and hospitality brands, including Kimpton, Even Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo and Hualuxe, as well as the still active InterContinental Hotels & Resort Brand.

The hotel brands that ranked third and fourth are both subsidiaries of the company Hilton Worldwide. Like IHG, Hilton Worldwide also runs various hospitality brands. Many of the brands don their parent company’s iconic name, such as Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Double Tree by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton Grand Vacations to name a few.

In 2014, Hilton Worldwide ranked as the third largest hotel company globally in terms of revenue, the leading company was InterContinental Hotels Group with more than double the revenue of Hilton. Despite the Best Western Brand ranking fifth in terms number of room, its parent company Best Western International Inc. did not manage to rank as one of the largest in terms of revenue.
