Spotify also allows users to login with their Facebook accounts and to cross-post their listening habits to the social network. Currently, Spotify is the most popular Facebook app, ahead of audio streaming competitors YouTube and Soundcloud. The streaming platform also ranks among the most popular daily accessed social networks and apps of high school graduates in the United States.
As of April 2015, research found that the majority of Spotify users in the United States were female with a user share of 55 percent. Only 45 percent of U.S. users were male. Despite its freemium model, the streaming service is also especially popular with younger users who are willing to pay for digital content – a late 2014 survey of teen internet users worldwide found that 11 percent of respondents had paid for Spotify usage in the previous month.
