This statistic shows the average annual number of men hospitalized after a suicide attempt in the United States, between 2008 and 2012, by age group. Within that period, some 75 thousand men aged between 30 and 49 years have been annually hospitalized overnight or longer after attempting suicide.

* NSDUH respondents who attempted suicide in the past 12 months were asked if they had been treated medically as a result of a suicide attempt, and subsequently those answering “yes” were asked if they had stayed in the hospital overnight or longer because of a suicide attempt. Respondents with unknown suicide information were excluded.
