NSDUH respondents who attempted suicide in the past 12 months were asked if they had been treated medically as a result of a suicide attempt, and subsequently those answering “yes” were asked if they had stayed in the hospital overnight or longer because of a suicide attempt. Respondents with unknown suicide information were excluded.
* Due to methodological changes in 2021, caution should be used when comparing figures for 2021 with previous years. Please see source for further information on methodology.
Figures prior to 2021 were taken from previous reports.
