Cloud infrastructure services market share quarterly worldwide 2017-2021, by vendor

In the third quarter of 2021, Amazon Web Services (AWS), held around 33 percent market share of the cloud infrastructure services market. AWS's share of the cloud infrastructure services market has remained steady at around a third of the total market since at least 2017. Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud take 20 percent and 10 percent market share, respectively. The next twenty cloud providers held a combined 27 percent of market share.

The main types of cloud computing

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) or cloud infrastructure services form one of the three core service models of the cloud computing market, along with platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS). In the IaaS service model, a third party provides and maintains infrastructure components on behalf of its customers.

Software as a Service remains the largest segment in the market

Within the cloud computing market, software as a service (SaaS) is - and is expected to remain - the largest segment overall. Software as a service, also referred to as web-based software, is delivered over the internet. This frees organizations from having to manage hardware and software as the provider manages the application. This includes performance and security, too.
