E-commerce revenue in Spain 2017-2024, by segment

Even though Spain lags behind key EU e-Commerce markets such as the UK,France and Germany, it is the largest market in Southern Europe, with revenues projected to grow from 14.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2017 to 27.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. The rapid acceptance of mobile commerce, along with robust domestic demand and post-crisis labour market reforms, are all key factors driving the not only the overall market growth but also the increase in average spending per capita. Unsurprisingly, mobile apps are by far the more popular channel as compared to browser sales in the country. Electronics & media was the largest segment in 2017 with revenues of 4.5 billion U.S. dollars.

Rise of cross-border e-commerce in Spain

International merchants are in a strong position to win customers in Spain with the number of cross-border shoppers witnessing a big increase from just 7.36% in 2010 to almost 26% in 2018. In fact such is the keenness to shop abroad that it accounts for as much as 21% of the country’s total e-Commerce revenues as per some estimates. Unsurprisingly, Amazon is the market leader, followed by Elcorteingles, Carrefour and PcComponentes.
