This statistic shows the amount of methane (CH4) emissions attributable to production of electricity from gas in the United Kingdom (UK) from 1990 to 2017, in thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). It shows that CH4 emissions from this sector were very low in 1990 but increased significantly over the following years. In 2010, emissions peaked at 28,100 metric tons of CO2e and decreased afterwards to 21 thousand metric tons of CO2e in 2017.
Methane (CH4) emissions from the production of electricity from gas in the United Kingdom (UK) from 1990 to 2017
(in 1,000 metric tons of CO2e*)
Methane (CH4) is the second most emitted greenhouse gas in the world, following carbon dioxide (CO2).
Sector classification is based on the NACE code, which is the industry standard classification system for economic activities in the European Community.
