This statistic shows the share of innovators in the EDP and telecommunications industry in Germany from 2006 to 2015. The numbers refer to the preceding three years. In the three year period leading up to 2009, roughly 16 percent of companies introduced process innovations that led to cost reductions.

According to the source, the German innovation survey has been conducted by the Centre for European Economic Research (Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsförderung ZEW) since 1993 in cooperation with infas (Institute for applied social sciences) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The survey considers all companies in Germany with at least 5 employees whose economic focus lies in the relevant sector. Definitions and concepts of measurements correspond to the international standards of OECD and Eurostat. Every other year, the innovation survey is part of the European Community Innovation Survey (CIS) coordinated by Eurostat. All figures were projected on the basic sample of companies with at least five employees in Germany. More than 15,400 companies took part in the 2016 innovation survey in Germany (= 50 percent of sample size), 843 of which belonged to the EDP and telecommunications sector.

Software, EDP, information services (WZ08 62-63): Software development and other programming activities, operation of data processing facilities, software and hardware consulting, hosting, operation of web portals, correspondence and news offices, other IT services and other information services.

Telecommunications (WZ08 61): Landline telephony, mobile communications and satellite telecommunications, internet service providers, operators of telephone and internet services (incl. internet cafés and call shops).
