By 2020, this figure was expected to reach about 386 billion dollars, which is about a seven percent increase. The United States is home to one of the largest apparel and footwear markets in the world, alongside Western Europe and China.
Clothing Retail in the United States

Total retail sales from clothing stores in the United States reached nearly 190 billion U.S. dollars in 2017. Over the course of the calendar year, monthly retail sales of U.S. clothing stores tend to peak in November and December, presumably in preparation of the holiday season, and are at their lowest in January. In December 2018, U.S. clothing stores generated about 24 billion dollars in sales.

Top Apparel and Footwear Brands in the U.S.

There are countless apparel and footwear brands in the United States, though a few key players stand out from the rest. VF Corporation, which owns brands such as The North Face, Vans, and Dickies to name a few, was the leading apparel brand in the United States in 2017 in terms of revenue. That year, the company’s net sales amounted to around 6.5 billion U.S. dollars. Sportswear brands such as Nike and Under Armour also featured towards the top-end of this listing.
