Leading Netflix markets – additional information
U.S.-based Netflix is one of the leading streaming providers in the world, with almost 104 million streaming subscribers worldwide as of the second quarter of 2017. Global figures have been on the rise in the last few years thanks to Netflix’s global expansion strategy. Despite the increasing popularity of the streaming provider worldwide, Netflix’s domestic market, the U.S., still remains their main market, as about 62 percent of American internet users stated using Netflix. The U.S. is projected to continue to be Netflix’s leading market in the coming years, as the number of Netflix users in the U.S. is forecast to jump from an estimate of 109 million in 2015 to almost 140 million in 2020.
Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Canada complete the top 5 most important markets for the streaming provider. Netflix has developed a significant user base in Mexico since the company entered the Mexican market in 2011; about 72 of internet users in Mexico have stated using their services as of the second quarter of 2017. By 2020, the number of Netflix subscribers in Mexico is forecast to pass the 24 million mark.
