Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party) obtained a slight majority in the parliament with 40 seats, followed closely behind by Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) with 39 seats. Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) came third with 38 seats. The official parliamentary election day took place on April 14, 2019.

Finland is divided into 13 electoral districts and the number of representatives are proportional, dependent on the amount of population in each district. Åland, as an autonumous region, makes and exception in that it always elects one representative. The electoral period for the Finnish parliament is four years.
