OTC medicine market in Great Britain
Cough, cold and sore throat medication had the second highest sales value in 2023, when broken down by OTC drug categories. Pain relief medication was the category with the highest sales value, at approximately 750 million British pounds. Vitamins and minerals had a sales value of 492 million British pounds, the third highest category overall in Great Britain. Overall, the sales value of OTC drugs has increased from 1.65 billion British pounds in the year 2000 to approximately 3.2 billion British pounds in 2023.
Growth of other OTC categories
The OTC product category which had the highest growth of sales value in Great Britain from 2022 and 2023 was eye care with a significant growth of 13 percent. This was followed by skin treatments which grew by 11 percent compared to the previous year.
